1. Next Patent Agent examination shall be conducted on 23rd and viva-voce
24th January,2010

2. In case there are more candidates, viva-voce may also be conducted on 25th
January for the local candidates.

3. Paper I, Patent Act and Rules, shall have 40% objectives questions of one
mark each and 60% descriptive answer questions.
4. The structure of Paper II will be as follows:

a)Drafting of specification from given claims and background
b) Drafting of claims from given specification

In each of this, one set each, shall be Science and Engineering and will be of
30 marks each. The rest shall be descriptive /interpretative questions. The
viva-voce shall be based only on domain knowledge.

5. Question banks of Paper I may be created from the inputs of as many experts
as possible and claims/specifications will be taken from database.

6. The Patent Agent Examination Board will finalise the question paper by
shortlisting from the question banks as created above.

7. The examinations hall be conducted in appropriate educational institutions
with sufficient rooms and not in the Patent Office. Each Head of Office of
IPOs shall be given responsibility of or arrangement of location and other support.

8. Wide publicity should be given through education columns of leading
newspapers, emails to various law colleges, CII, FICCI, OPPI, industrial
associations, IIT and the like.
